Fall first delivery

Some designers get their biggest rush from taking their runway bow or seeing someone on the street wearing a piece from their line but at Philip Sparks we get most giddy seeing hundreds of pieces all lined up on a rack ready to ship.

Fall 2009's first delivery is being shipped this week. It includes suiting in grey wool and green plaid, navy blue duffel coats, down pieces and flannel shirting.

Inspiration Point: Toronto Islands

The Toronto Islands were an inspiration point for the first Philip Sparks spring collection. This July, a city strike limited ferry service in Toronto’s harbour but now that everyone is back to work, we’ll be spending as much time as possible on the water.

Hanlan’s Point is great for fishing and is home to the city's only nude beach while Centre Island fills up fast with families visiting the Centreville amusement park. Wards Island on the eastern edge of the archipelago is the most laid back spot with its laneways lined with original cottages and the Ward’s Island Association club house built in the late 1930s.

Fall Essentials: Riding Boot

The fall collection will start arriving at retailers over the next few weeks so we’re starting a series of posts highlighting our collection favourites and must-haves for the season.

This riding boot is the stand-out style from Philip Sparks’ ongoing collaboration with Town Shoes in Canada. It’s inspired by vintage Royal Canadian Mounted Police boots in a mix of black and brown leather with flannel lining.

Product Knowledge: Leather Motorcycle Jacket

This jacket was a late addition to the Spring 2010 runway collection, created for the Gen Art Fresh Faces in Fashion show in New York City. As often happens with our showpieces, retailers and customers ended up loving it so we created a very limited number for sale this season. Two ended up at Delphic where they hung the piece with their womenswear selection. The wide, snap-down collar, angled zipper and shorter body cut from lightweight napa leather is an equally good fit for men and women.
